Tree trimming is one of the most important but under appreciated services that can be done to a tree.  Trimming removes dead wood that can fall and damage property or persons.  Trimming removes crossing limbs, cracked limbs, limbs with excessive decay, and sink limbs.  Proper trimming includes removing limbs at the branch bark ridge, therefore avoiding tear-down wounds and nub cuts that can lead to decay.  Here the branch can heal over faster and easier.

It's important to remember that any wound paint or sealant is bad, very bad for the tree.  Tree paint can lead to slow wound healing and decay.
